Introduced May 25, 2012 in Monaco, at the F1 Grand Prix, and as its name suggests, it celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Alpine A110, known as the "Berlinetta". This icon of motorsport was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1962. Eleven years later, in 1973, it won the first Constructors' title awarded in the World Rally Championship, with some of the best French drivers of the era, as Jean-Claude Andruet, Bernard Darniche, Jean-Luc Thérier and Jean-Pierre Nicolas. It raced both in rally and on the circuit of the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The A110 was made for fifteen years and was based on the Renault R8 and R16, from 1962 to 1977. It was designed by Jean Rédélé (1922-2007). After becoming the youngest Renault dealer in France in his hometown of Dieppe and a brilliant driver, in 1955 he founded Alpine, whose name refers to his victory in the Coupe des Alpes the previous year. It is also on mountain roads that the A110-50 concept is shown in the video above. The Renault Alpine A110-50 on show at the Mondial is equipped with a 400hp V6 Renault engine in a centre-rear position. It is hoped that this car heralds a rebirth, of one of the most glorious French sports marques.
