Driving the Honda HPD ARX-03a, current leader of the LM P1 class, Lucas Luhr won his 18th pole position in the ALMS, which is also the first for Muscle Milk Team Pickett Racing at Mid-Ohio. There was a similar performance in GT from Jörg Müller (BMW M3), for the first time on pole at this track. To delight his boss Bobby Rahal, living legend of American racing (winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 1986), a native of Ohio. Behind the BMW, Ferrari and Porsche are well and truly back in the forefront: the two 458 Italia of Extreme Speed Motorsports and the 911 GT3 RSR of Flying Lizard Motorsports slipped in front of the two factory Corvettes who have been the main opponents to BMW since the beginning of the 2012 season.
In LM P2, Christophe Bouchut set another pole position time (his third of the year) in the Level 5 Motorsports Honda HPD ARX-03b, ahead of the Morgan-Nissan of Martin Plowman and David Heinemeier Hansson and the Lola Judd Coupe of Patrick Dempsey and Joe Foster, back on track after finishing third in the fourth race at Lime Rock on the 7th of July.
