Superkarts appeared in the 70's in Britain, and are high performance karts with aerodynamic bodywork. Drivers of full sized race cars are also often surprised that a 250cc engine is enough to match the performance of their big machines ...
It should be noted these formidable engines generate power about 100 hp for a minimum weight of 218 kilos. Superkarts are equipped with twin engines and a six speed gearbox.
The CIK-FIA European Superkart Championship 2012 will be at Le Mans this weekend, as part of the Fête de l’ACO. Two men are contesting the title: the Dutch driver Marcel Maasmann and British Lee Harpham. The former is 6 points ahead of the latter, their two worst results are dropped in accordance with the regulations, so both drivers are currently equal.
