In the P class, which merges Daytona Prototypes (DP) from Grand Am and LM P2 from ALMS, Chip Ganassi Racing will race two new Ford DP. ALMS regulars, Extreme Speed Motorsports will remain faithful to their Honda HPD LM P2. First 56th pitbox selection at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2012, the DeltaWing will race in its new closed cockpit version. Among other prototypes to watch will be the two Mazda entries and their diesel Skyactiv-D powerplants, presented at Le Mans in 2012. The head to head competition between these two completely different prorotype philosophies will be one of the main attractiosn of the TUSCC debut season.
In GTLM, the battle will be fierce. This class unites all of the ALMS protagonists, with several factory teams: Porsche, Viper, Corvette, Aston Martin, BMW and Risi Competizione representing Ferrari. Over 20 cars are entered in the GT Daytona class, where actor Patrick Dempsey will race with two Porsche entries. This class will see competitors from both ALMS (Flying Lizard Motorsports) and Grand Am.
Several teams having competed recently at the Le Mans 24 Hours will also be present. LM P2 class winners at Le Mans and in the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship, OAK Racing will enter one Morgan-Nissan. Crowned champion in LM GTE Am following the 6 Hours of Bahrain, 8Star Motorsports will race in the P class with a Corvette DP, and Prototype Challenge (formerly known as LM PC, with single-make chassis Oreca FLM09). Level 5 Motorsports will be one of the only teams present in P, PC and GT Daytona. And last but not least, former 24 Hours of Le Mans GT class winners Corvette, Risi Competizione and Aston Martin will also be present.
The 2014 TUSCC calendar (here) includes 13 races, with certain events having separate races for certain classes. The next official testing days will be held at Daytona from January 3-5, 2014. For more information see www.imsa.com.
