Asian Le Mans Series Buriram - Exciting qualifying

An Automobile Club de l'Ouest official, Herv

Started at 4:45 p.m., qualifying at the 3 Hours of Buriram was disrupted by a violent incident for Team AAI's No. 88 Adess (LM P3 class) at turn 8. Safety officials dispatched immediately and the driver was extracted from the car that was heavily damaged on the right side. While equipment repaired the railing, the driver was taken as a precaution to the medical center and the car was shelved.

Earlier, the session had begun by a stop at the exit of pit lane for KCMG's Porsche Cup, which took off again two minutes later. Then it was the other Team AAI Adess'  (No. 89) turn to lose a door in turn 4. After qualifying resumed at 5:23 p.m., the same car had another mishap landing in the gravel trap in turn 3, where it remained until the checkered flag at 5:36 p.m., daylight fading fast.

The order from the free practice sessions was largely respected: Jagonya Ayam with Eurasia's No. 9 Oreca ahead of Algarve Pro Racing's Ligier JS P2. In LM P3, David Cheng confirmed the superiority of his Ligier JS P3 against two proven Adesses. In the CN prototypes class, Atlantic Racing's Wolf kept its lead on Avelon. The surprise came from the best GT performance for Clearwater Racing's McLaren, which had evidently hidden its hand a bit during the free practice. KCMG's Porsche, alone in GTAm, once again rounded things out.
