FIA WEC – The #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid wins the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain

The #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López pulled off a one-two at the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain this weekend, and as a result, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has clinched the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship in the Hypercar class.

To win the Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain, it was key to apply good fuel strategy, manage severe tire wear due to the heat (33°C in the air, 42°C on the track) and avoid making any mistakes. In the end, the #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid shared by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López finished ahead of the #8 sister car and Alpine Elf Matmut's #36 Alpine A480-Gibson. Thanks to this one-two, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing has won the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship title in the new Hypercar class. The Japanese marque has ushered in this new era with gusto by clinching both the title and winning the 89th 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The battle for victory in LMP2 raged between United Autosports USA, JOTA, Team WRT and Racing Team Nederland. Team WRT's #31 ORECA 07-Gibson triumphed with more than a one-minute lead on JOTA's #28 and #38, with the United Autosports USA team's #22 finishing fourth.

The #91 and #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19s dominated the LMGTE Pro class, with the #92 driven by Kevin Estre and Neel Jani finishing ahead of the sister car. The #51 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo of duo Pier Guidi/Calado rounded out the podium. The season finale Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain will decide the winner of the FIA GT Constructors title between the two teams.

The win in LMGTE Am went to Aston Martin and TF Sport's #33 Vantage AMR driven by Ben Keating, Felipe Fraga and Dylan Pereira. The British team triumphed over Dempsey-Proton Racing's #77 Porsche 911 RSR-19 and Team Project 1's #56. The #83 Ferrari 488 GTE fielded by AF Corse, leader in the FIA GTE Am Teams trophy before the race, finished fifth.
