The 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans for Larbre Compétition (LMP2)

43 teams (fielding 61 cars) competed in the 87th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Super Finale of the FIA WEC 2018-19 World Endurance Championship. There were winners, of course, but also mechanical glitches, track incidents and early retirements. Joy for some, disappointment for others... Here’s a summary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Larbre Compétition team, which ran in the LMP2 class.

TEAM: Larbre Compétition

Class: LMP2

Car: Ligier JP 217-Gibson

Drivers:

  • Erwin Creed (2nd participation)
  • Romano Ricci (3rd participation)
  • Nicholas Boulle (2nd participation)

This year, Larbre Compétition took its 26th start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team managed by Jack Leconte qualified in 28th position with a time of 3:34.913 clocked by Romano Ricci during the third session. Early in the race, the #50 Ligier JS P217-Gibson #50 suffered a flat tyre before incurring a five-second penalty for making contact with a slower car during an overtaking maneuver at the Mulsanne corner. During the night, the French team was hamstrung by a detached hood and another flat tyre, finishing 17th overall and 12th in LMP2. The result allowed Larbre Compétition to finish the 2018-2019 FIA WEC season in fifth place in the FIA Endurance LMP2 Teams Trophy (ahead of Racing Team Nederland and TDS Racing). "The car was extremely well-prepared and we had no trouble with our gearbox, brakes or suspensions, everything went well. This running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans was very pleasurable and it was great to put such a programme together," commented Jack Leconte.
