2027 24 Hours of Le Mans: Alex Lynn joins McLaren Racing

The McLaren Racing Hypercar team is taking shape in view of their FIA World Endurance Championship entry at the 95th 24 Hours of Le Mans (9–13 June 2027). Alex Lynn’s arrival reinforces the British make’s campaign to reach new heights in endurance racing.

McLaren Racing has added a new member to its Hypercar team in the form of British driver Alex Lynn. The 33-year-old will join Mikkel Jensen, Laurens Vanthoor and Leonardo Fornaroli when his season with Cadillac Hertz Team Jota ends. With several race wins, a European Le Mans Series title, and pole position at Le Mans in 2025, Alex Lynn brings precious experience to the preparations for 2027.

Lynn knows that talent alone is not enough at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

At Le Mans, talent is only one factor of success. Drivers need to withstand pressure and fatigue to pay attention to the slightest details at the wheel. Alex Lynn knows how demanding this race is. In the course of his career, Lynn has competed in single-seaters, Formula E and several endurance racing categories, proving himself to be extremely versatile.

Winner of the Macao Grand Prix in 2013, GP3 champion in 2014, then Formula One development driver, he won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2017 and 2022. In 2020, he claimed the LMGTE PRO class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and went on to take the European Le Mans Series LMP2 title in 2023.

Recently, Alex Lynn has confirmed he can play a starring role in the Hypercar class. In 2025 he clinched pole position at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. What more proof could anyone need?

Joining McLaren Racing is a milestone in the Lynn’s career, and he now has two goals: to win the world championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the iconic British make.

“As a British driver is there any bigger honour than being a McLaren Racing driver? I don’t think so,” says Lynn. “It’s a team name that I am incredibly proud to wear on my chest and I take great pride and responsibility in representing. I don’t underestimate the challenge ahead – I know from experience that WEC and Le Mans are incredibly tough to win and are more competitive today than ever before – but I can already see that Zak [Brown], James [Barclay] and the McLaren Hypercar Team are laying the foundations of what could be a championship-winning team. I couldn’t be more driven towards winning a world title and taking victory at Le Mans for the most iconic racing brand in the world.”

McLaren’s campaign to reach new heights in endurance racing

Alex Lynn’s arrival is part of McLaren Racing’s painstaking pursuit of their Hypercar programme with the MCL-HY. Alongside Mikkel Jensen, Laurens Vanthoor and Leonardo Fornaroli, Alex Lynn brings in-depth knowledge of the FIA WEC acquired in several categories and direct experience of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and its particular exactions.

James Barclay, Team Principal of McLaren Hypercar Team: “We are delighted to welcome Alex to the McLaren Hypercar Team. He is a proven winner with extensive experience at the highest level of endurance racing, and his speed, technical understanding and knowledge of the FIA World Endurance Championship will be a real asset to our programme. Alex has consistently demonstrated his ability on the biggest stages, including at Le Mans, and his signing adds further strength and depth to an already exciting driver line-up as we prepare for our return to the pinnacle of sports car racing.”

As the 95th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans approaches, McLaren Racing will continue piecing together its programme. As the British outfit well knows, performance on track begins long before the race. A carefully chosen team of drivers and engineers makes all the difference to ensure everyone is aiming for the same finish line.
