After the last race of the 2015/2016 Asian Le Mans Series season, the winners in each class, as well as the two players in the championship, were honoured at the awards ceremony.
Three invitations to the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans were destined to reward the winners in the three classes of the Asian championship. Despite the overall win for Jagonya Ayam by Eurasia at the second race at Sepang last weekend, the Race Performance team was crowned in LM P2, scoring an invitation for the same class at Le Mans.
The outfit DC Racing, for David Cheng its founder and driver with Pegasus Racing at the last 24 Hours, went four-for-four in LM P3 and therefore earned a coveted invitation for its choice of LM P2 or LM GTE Am. The Clearwater Racing outfit, winner in GT, will be able to choose either LM GTE Pro or Am at Le Mans.
The winners were given their awards during a ceremony that took place after the fourth and final round of the 2015/2016 season. The Rookie of the Year trophy went to Thomas Laurent for his performances in DC Racing's Ligier JS P3 even though he did not participate in the first round of the season. Starting from the last spot on the starting grid because of a gearbox that broke during the free practice, the young French driver did not give up even though the team had already clinched the title.
Unlike the rookie trophy, the one for Man of the Year did not go to a winning team since Mark Goddard, Eurasia Motorsport team principal, won the trophy. Nonetheless, the team flying the Filipino flag did score two victories at the last two races of the season with the second Oreca entered by Jagonya Ayam (slogan of the KFC fast food chain in Indonesia) by Eurasia. Now it's the European Le Mans Series for Eurasia, but the outfit will return to the Asian Le Mans Series next season, as stated by Mark Goddard in a team press release.
