Classic Endurance Racing: recapturing a 'golden age'

     Eligibility for these cars is from 1966 to 1979 - the first race of this year took place in the historic setting of the Monza circuit in June. This was followed by the Le Mans Classic in July at the Sarthe circuit. The climax to the year will take place at Paul Ricard in France from October 8th to 10th during the Peter Auto's new classic meeting "Dix Mille Tours". One of the most famous drivers taking part in this race today is the American Bobby Rahal, winner of the Indy 500 in #9 Lola T212. Also driving is the drummer from the group Travis, Neil Primrose in # 10 Lola T212.

     Cars taking part include a Ferrari 275GTB, Porsche 910, 911RSR and 935, de Tomaso Mangusta, Chevrolet Corvette plus many Chevrons and Lolas.

     The cars are split into 4 classes: Proto 1 1966/1972, Proto 2 1973/1979, GT1 1966/1974 and GT2 1975/1979.

     At 3.15 the 1 hour race for Classic Endurance Cars got underway now in warm sunshine all cars making a mandatory pit stop 25 to 35 mins into the race.  Although 54 cars were entered for the race only 50 took the starting flag. On pole position was #31 Lola T280 driven by Carlos Barbot and Jonathan Baker.

     The results were as follows:

     Proto 1  1st: #28 Lola T210 driven by Charlie Kemp and  Chris Fox

     Proto 2  1st: #84 Chevron B26 driven by Gareth Burnett (also overall winner)

     GT1      1st:  #40 Porsche 911 RSR 2.8t driven by Bernard Moreau 

     GT2      1st:  #12 Porsche 935 driven by Michael Foveny and Stefan Roitmayer

     2 lap penalties were given to cars 30/31/91 and 100 for pit stop infringements.
