This fifth round of the 2021 European Le Mans Series season is the first race after the 89th 24 Hours of Le Mans where Team WRT won the LMP2 class in its rookie start. The 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will once again host spectators and all eyes will surely be on the Belgian team competing on its home turf. The starting grid boasts 117 drivers in 39 cars fielded by 28 different teams.
Fourteen cars are entered in LMP2, including five in Pro/Am. With three podiums in four races to its credit, Team WRT leads the championship 11 points ahead of G-Drive Racing. The team's drivers who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the class this year, Ferdinand Habsburg and Charles Milesi, will represent different teams. Habsburg will take the wheel of Algarve Pro Racing's #24 ORECA 07-Gibson and Milesi will drive Cool Racing's #37 ORECA 07-Gibson.
There are 16 cars in LMP3. Championship leader Cool Racing finished fourth at the last round at Monza, reducing its advantage by 13 points. The DKR Engineering team will seek to close the gap in the standings with the Swiss outfit even more.
The LMGTE grid is comprised of nine cars: six Ferrari 488 GTE Evos, two Porsche 911 RSR-19s and one Aston Martin Vantage AMR. This year, AF Corse won its very first victory in LMGTE Am at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Italian team is looking to ride this momentum as it chases down Iron Lynx and Spirit Of Race, first and second in the championship, respectively.
