Five highlights of Thursday 13 June

Throughout race week at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans, we'll share five standout points of interest for the day. The field took to the track for the qualifying sessions this evening.

The #1 Rebellion had its timesheet wiped clean and Mike Conway was handed a suspended 3-minute penalty.

The #1 Rebellion had its Qualifying 1 timesheet cleared for an incorrect declaration of fuel flow. Neel Jani, André Lotterer and Bruno Senna are starting from scratch this evening. They have four hours in which to register a time that secures the best possible spot on the grid.

Following the crash with the #31 Oreca 07-Gibson yesterday, Mike Conway (#7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid) was handed a three-minute penalty for ignoring yellow flags.

The Dempsey Racing #99 Porsche 911 RSR has pulled out

Tracy Krohn required medical attention after his accident on the Mulsanne Straight on Wednesday and was transferred to hospital as a precautionary measure. He was discharged this morning. However, having being advised by the FIA to refrain from racing in FIA events for a period of at least one week until such time as the mandatory protocol has been completed, Krohn will not compete in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The American crew therefore has to withdraw.

Tracy Krohn: While it is a major disappointment for the Dempsey Proton Competition team, headed up by Christian Reid, on behalf of myself, and my regular co-driver, Nic Jonsson, we want to thank all of the team members for their valiant efforts.   Many thanks to Patrick Long for making a super effort to be here with us for this race as he had to jump through a lot of hoops to even get to Scrutineering last Monday for the 24 Hours of Le Mans event, (to be held June 15-16, 2019) after his victory in GTD class at Sonoma l, California in the U.S. on Sunday.

Le Mans street named after the Bentley Boys

A street near the main gate of the Circuit des 24 Heures was renamed rue des Bentley Boys after the British marque’s drivers of the 1920s. The city pays homage to Bentley in its 100th year by honouring the all-conquering men.

Pit Walk

The pit lane will be open tomorrow from 10:00 to 20:00 for the pit walk when fans get chance to see cars and meet drivers.  Entrance to the track is at pit in.

Le Mans Esports Series final

The Le Mans Esports Series final begins tomorrow. The qualifying sessions took place today. Twelve teams take to the simulators in an extremely intense competition. Gamers observe each other’s techniques and tactics. French team Baguette Racing pays great attention to detail. Christopher Cabrera (ESC Chris), Alexandre Arnou (Asix) and Aurelien Mohammedi-Mallet (RBR Laige) ooze confidence. They have their chances, but the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in real life or virtually, always has a few surprises up its sleeve.
