Fringe events - Saint-Saturnin Classic British Welcome pays tribute to Marcos

The day before the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the small town situated just north of Le Mans will host nearly 1,000 unique modern and vintage cars.

Since 2001, the inhabitants of Saint-Saturnin (northwest of Le Mans) have tripled the day before the 24 Hours of Le Mans as the town transforms into a giant reception area. Ideally located on the "route des Anglais," the Saint-Saturnin Classic British Welcome is a fun gathering during which all visitors are welcome to walk around, take photos and pause for long looks at exceptional vehicles.

For this year's edition, the Saint-Saturnin Classic British Welcome will pay tribute to the marque Marcos. The British constructor created in 1959 and disbanded in 2007 participated for the last time in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1997. Classic British Welcome Vice President David Williams: "More than 70 Marcos will be on display at this event and it will be the largest group ever assembled to-date in Europe. We decided on Marcos as our guest of honor to underscore its participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This small factory went head-to-head with the biggest manufacturers, and that feat truly characterizes the spirit of Le Mans."

Guests of honor

Every edition of the Saint-Saturnin Classic British Welcome includes very special guests. After Mauro Bianchi and Jean-Pierre Jaussaud in 2016, this year the event will welcome Frédéric Sausset. The first quad-amputee to have participated in and crossed the finish line at the 24 Hours of Le Mans will be joined by his teammates Christophe Tinseau and Jean-Bernard Bouvet. Classic British Welcome Vice President David Williams: "Their astounding story is similar to that of Marcos at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. To make it to the checkered flag at this race is an incredible accomplishment and a real dream for Frédéric Sausset and his teammates. Fans of the 24 Hours of Le Mans appreciate that."

This gathering is a highlight of a week full of festivities surrounding the 24 Hours of Le Mans. On Monday the 12th and Tuesday the 13th, the "Critérium" for young drivers, an educational effort to raise road safety awareness, is organized with the assistance of the ACO for the benefit of school children in the towns of Aigné, Saint-Saturnin and La Milesse at the Val-de-Vray Cultural Center. A Karting contest will take place on Wednesday before members of the organization begin preparing the area on Thursday.
