The Le Mans Classic Grid 1 covers 16 years and some legendary pioneers of the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours, including Bentley (5 victories in 1924-27-28-29-30) and Alfa Romeo (4 victories from 1930 to 1934). Two French makes also won during this period: Delahaye (1938) and Bugatti (1937-1939). The latter was rewarded for its dedication by two victories, while Delahaye manufactured stunning exclusive convertible models which could also win the Monte Carlo rally in 1938.
In Grid 1, the cars’ displacement goes from 1000cc to 8000cc. Most of them are convertible, and some very close to the street versions, like the Simca 8 driven by the 2-time Le Mans winner Jean-Pierre Jaussaud. Grid 1 will also feature a reconstruction of the C4, the one and only Citroën ever entered in the 24 Hours. Many British cars (Austin, MG, Singer, Riley) also came to Le Mans in the 1930s, sometimes with ladies at the wheel!
Grid 1 drivers must be saluted, since these open cars are very difficult to drive, at 200kph for the quickest without much protection for the drivers.
