GT guide for the 24 Hours 2013 (5) : The Viper

FOR THE FIFTH AND LAST CHAPTER OF INTRODUCTION TO THE CARS OF THE LM GTE PRO AND AM CLASSES AT THE 24 HOURS OF LE MANS 2013, WE WELCOME THE RETURN OF A GREAT AMERICAN GT.

The road version. Introduced as a concept in 1989, the Viper was first marketed from 1992 to 2010 under the Dodge name in the United States and Chrysler in Europe. It took just a decade for it to join the Corvette, Ford Mustang or the Dodge Charger in the pantheon of great American sports cars. A new version was unveiled in 2012.

The 2012 season. Under the name SRT (Street & Racing Technology), the Viper made its return to competition in the American Le Mans Series.

2013 goals. The Viper picks up the thread of its record in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (three consecutive class wins 1998-1999-2000). In its return, the American GT will be looking for the best possible performance, spurred by a struggle for prestige with its compatriot and rival, the Corvette, which has nine wins in La Sarthe in various GT classes since 2001.

The 90th anniversary 24 Hours of Le Mans is on the 22nd and 23rd June.
