Jann Mardenborough in prototypes, single seaters and the 24 Hours of Le Mans

Can a video game racer have a real career in single seaters? That is the challenge for the young Brit Jann Mardenborough, one of the highlights of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2013.

Former winner of the Nissan GT Academy, a partnership between the Japanese automaker and the Playstation game Gran Turismo, Jann Mardenborough made an impression in his first appearance in La Sarthe, driving one of the two Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nissan entries. Finishing fourth in the LM P2 class, with Lucas Ordonez and Michael Krumm, the young talent (22 years old), the trio were handed third place thanks to the disqualification of the G-Drive Racing Oreca-Nissan.

Exactly eight months later, Jann Mardenborough has returned to endurance racing during preliminary testing for the 12 Hours of Sebring (held March 15th), the second round of the  Tudor United SportsCar Championship, the new North American series, where he will join Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf at the wheel of the Muscle Milk Pickett Racing Oreca-Nissan, two-time American Le Mans Series champions. Another challenge awaits Jann Mardenborough in 2014: single seaters. He was recently recruited into the Red Bull Racing ladder system where he will compete in the GP3 season.

Jann Mardenborough : "It has been a very big week for me. On Monday it was announced that I am going to be racing in GP3 this year with Arden and I am really looking forward to that. Now to be in Sebring and to be linked up with Muscle Milk Pickett Racing for the 12 Hours of Sebring is another great opportunity. I really like sportscars. That is where I started my racing and to now get the opportunity to race at Sebring for the first time is brilliant. “This is such a historic venue and historic race. I have seen it so many times on TV and now I get the chance to race here."

Will this ambitious program give Jann Mardenborough the chance to race at Le Mans again ? Time will tell…
