P Fillon: We are pressing on with our plans to hold the 24 Hours of Le Mans in September

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest continues to monitor the Covid-19 situation, especially concerning government decisions on sporting events and the lifting of lockdown restrictions and we play our role in discussions with the relevant institutions. Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu recently expressed reservations about holding major events this autumn, but Pierre Fillon is eager to emphasise that the ACO is pressing on with race preparations:

In the last few weeks we have reshuffled event calendars and re-set the dates for the 24H Motos, now at the end of August, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, scheduled on 19 and 20 September. When we announced the postponements, we stressed that our events depend on the evolution of the pandemic and on the relevant government decisions. We have our sights firmly set on holding the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans on 19 and 20 September and our staff are busy doing the groundwork.

At the same time, we are exploring alternatives. As event organiser, we are committed to safety and to high standards, on and off the track. It is logical to have a backup plan and it would be irresponsible not to envisage all possibilities, including those that are not on the cards for the moment."
