Photo of the Day - Price Cobb and Jaguar win at the 1990 24 Hours of Le Mans

On October 19, 1781, the Brit Lord Cornwallis surrendered to American insurgents led by George Washington and to their French allies led by the Count of Rochambeau in Yorktown, Virginia and so American independence was full steam ahead.

Only one driver born in Virginia has won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans: Price Cobb, in 1990, along with Martin Brundle and John Nielsen in the #3 Jaguar XJR-12 entered by Silk Cut Jaguar and Tom Walkinshaw Racing. The American was born in the city of Alton where is located the Virginia International Raceway, site of one of the rounds of the American endurance championship.

In the photo, Price Cobb (at right) parades prior to the start with his teammate John Nielsen and driver of the #4 Jaguar sister car, Eliseo Salazar.
