Who has booked their place on the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans grid?

A number of teams have already picked up one or more invitations to the 90th 24 Hours of Le Mans scheduled for 11-12 June 2022. Let’s take a look at those who have clinched the first slots.

Six teams have made sure of their place on the grid for the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans based on their performance in the 2021 European Le Mans Series or Michelin Le Mans Cup, or their result at this year’s edition of the legendary French marathon. They are:

  • Team WRT: LMP2 winner at the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans (invited to compete in LMP2)
  • AF Corse: LMGTE Am winner at the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans (invited to defend their LMGTE Am title)
  • Team WRT: 2021 ELMS LMP2 champion (invited to compete in LMP2)
  • United Autosports: 2021 ELMS LMP2 runner-up (invited to compete in LMP2)
  • DKR Engineering: 2021 ELMS LMP3 champion (invited to compete in LMP2)
  • Iron Lynx: 2021 ELMS LMGTE champion (invited to compete in LMGTE Am)
  • Spirit Of Race: 2021 ELMS LMGTE runner-up (invited to compete in LMGTE Am)
  • Iron Lynx: 2021 Michelin Le Mans Cup winner (invited to compete in LMGTE Am)

The 2022 Asian Le Mans Series, which begins on 11 February, will offer further opportunities to pick up a precious ticket to compete in next year’s 24 Hours. The actual number of invitations will depend on the number of cars fielded in each class:

LMP2 and LMP2 Am combined

  • One invitation for the class winner. One more invitation will be awarded if more than ten cars race the season.
  • An invitation to compete in LMP2 is also awarded to the LMP3 winner.

GT

  • One invitation for the class winner

The drivers winning the Jim Trueman Award et Bob Akin Award in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will also be granted an invitation. IMSA will also award a third automatic entry to an LMP3 team.

A review of all invitees to the 2022 24 Hours of Le Mans will be drawn up once these golden tickets have been allocated.
