24 Hours of Le Mans – Gulf Racing (LMGTE Am)

This year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans sees a record number of entrants on the grid. We take a look at the 43 teams behind the 62 cars in the field. Here we give you the lowdown on LMGTE AM team Gulf Racing.

Team: Gulf Racing

Class: LMGTE Am

Car and Drivers:

#86 Porsche 911 RSR

  • Michael Wainwright (four participations)
  • Benjamin Barker (three participations)
  • Thomas Preining (rookie)

Team Achievements:

This British team is represented by one of the most famous colour combinations in the history of the 24 Hours (three overall victories in 1968, 1969 and 1975): the sky blue and orange of Gulf Oil. Since 2016, the team has figured regularly in the top 10 in the LMGTE Am class: fifth in 2016, 10th 2017 and 2018.

Team Goals at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans:

For the last three years, the #86 Porsche has been a major contender in the LMGTE Am class in the FIA World Endurance Championship, but is still seeking its first win. While a top 5 finish is a realistic result for the team, the competition in the class is daunting and includes the other Porsches, Aston Martins and Ferraris.
