24 Hours of Le Mans – Rebellion Racing ends its participation on a high note

The 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans is to be Rebellion Racing's final appearance in the race. The Swiss team makes its exit with second and fourth place overall.

Rebellion Racing approached the 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans with the desire to bow out in the best possible way. During the race, the #1 Rebellion R13-Gibson driven by Bruno Senna, Norman Nato and Gustavo Menezes as well as the #3 shared by Romain Dumas, Nathanaël Berthon and Louis Delétraz kept constant pressure on TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's Toyota TS050 Hybrids. In the end, the #1 finished in second place five laps from the winning Toyota. The Swiss team earned its best result at the race of its 11 participations and leaves with its head held high. A double podium finish would have been possible had the #3 not experienced clutch problems in the final hours.

Gustavo Menezes said after the race: "Of course, we always want to fight to win, but a podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, especially second place, is wonderful. The team really worked hard the entire weekend. The engine change in the second free practice lost us precious time. We showed of what we are capable in the Hyperpole with the fastest lap ever clocked by a non-hybrid LMP1, in 3:15.822 and surely one of the top three times in history. During the race, near dawn, we had trouble with the nose that caused us to lose aerodynamic downforce. I am really happy for this second place because it's Rebellion's best result at Le Mans, and the best for me too. Now I have three 24 Hours of Le Mans trophies at home!"

After two starts in the LMP2 class, Norman Nato participated for the first time with an LMP1: "I am very happy to reach the podium for my first participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the top class. We knew we could do a good race. We wanted to do well. We proved this season that we were capable of scoring pole position and winning races. During the race, we didn't encounter any major problems, but Toyota was simply stronger. Despite that, we can be proud of what we have accomplished."

La Rebellion R13-Gibson #3 du trio Dumas/Berthon/Delétraz s'est classée 4e du classement général après avoir rencontré des problèmes d'embrayage.

For Bruno Senna, this second place finish is a consecration: "It was my eighth participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. I've often had good showings here, but have also often had bad luck. So this is an unforgettable result and incredible for the team to beat Toyota and be able to follow its rhythm early in the race. It was a great race and the team did excellent work. Naturally, we would have liked to have seen both cars on the podium, but to us this result is a win."
