Corvette, a dual American crown in 2013

Pending the appearance of the seventh generation of the Corvette road & race car, the nine-time winners in the GT classes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, further enriched their record in 2013 in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and Grand-Am, the two American endurance racing series.

The American icon was beaten at Le Mans this year by Porsche and Aston Martin, but won the drivers title (for Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia, and also a third place finish for Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner) and the teams title in the ALMS after a long battle with BMW, balanced  by the return to the track of another great American GT car: the Viper. It is the tenth crown for team bosses Doug Fehan and Gary Pratt since 2001.

For the final year of the ALMS and Grand-Am, Corvette managed the feat of winning the title in both series with two different cars. First appearing in 2012 in Daytona Prototypes, the main class of the Grand-Am series, the Corvette DP has notched 16 victories, including eight in 12 races for the 2013 season. Max Angelelli and Jordan Taylor recorded five of them this year, including three over the last three rounds. This final push gave them the drivers' title, thirteen points ahead of Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas (BMW-Riley).

The year 2014 will see the competition debut for the new Corvette C7.R. As a result, the great American team will be in a position to fight for victory in both GT and Daytona Prototypes classes in the new series, the Tudor United SportsCar Championship, which will merge the ALMS and Grand-Am series in 2014. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Corvette has been successful nine times, with seven victories for the factory Corvette Racing team and two Larbre Competition, its French partner. It's no doubt Doug Fehan and Gary Pratt will be hoping for a successful debut in La Sarthe for the seventh generation of this legendary marque  ...
