Mick Schumacher to represent Alpine at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans

Alpine has confirmed Mick Schumacher for the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship. The son of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Shumacher will compete in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans 33 years after his legendary father.

Mick Schumacher (age 24) will make his debut in the FIA WEC and 24 Hours of Le Mans in the brand new Alpine A424 in the Hypercar category next year. The prodigal son German racer continues to make a name for himself after being crowned the 2018 F3 European Champion and 2020 F2 Champion. Following a move to Formula 1, he spent two seasons with Haas F1 Team before serving as a reserve driver for Mercedes.

Schumacher hit the track for tests last month in the Alpine A424 at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain. The experience solidified his promising collaboration with Alpine for the marque's Hypercar programme. Mick Schumacher: A new chapter is beginning for me with Alpine in the FIA WEC Hypercar category. The car is impressive, and I can't wait to get started. I've grown up with single-seaters, so cars with a closed cockpit and covered tyres are a great opportunity to hone my driving skills. I sorely missed racing this year; it's what I've loved to do since I was a kid, and it was sometimes difficult to watch the other drivers take to the track. Endurance racing is a new challenge for me, and I'm sure we'll have fun together next year with Alpine.

Joining Four French Drivers

Alpine has also revealed the names of the five other drivers entrusted with its two A424s committed to the 2024 FIA WEC. Schumacher's teammates: Nicolas Lapierre, Matthieu Vaxivière, Charles Milesi, Ferdinand Habsburg and Paul-Loup Chatin. Bruno Famin, VP Alpine Motorsports: It is a new chapter in Alpine's endurance racing history and we wanted the right profiles to take up this challenge. We've assembled a driver line-up that combines youth, speed, experience and loyalty to represent the brand's colours in the championship's most hotly contested category. We could not be more pleased to have Mick with us for his first foray into the discipline. His enthusiasm is palpable and boosts the whole team. We're also delighted to have Nicolas, who has followed the car's development from start to finish, and will mentor the younger team members, who also have the skills to perform alongside us starting next year.

Team manager Philippe Sinault is proud to be at the helm of a team he considers ideal and well-built. Philippe Sinault,: There's an interesting balance between the long-time and well-known drivers to the team, who are a force to be reckoned with, and the new faces who have surprised us in recent years. As a French team, we're particularly excited to have four French drivers in the team. There are less than 100 days until the first race of the 2024 season. Testing is almost over, and the team is complete: we can't wait to see our beautiful A424s driven by these drivers.

In less than 100 days, the Alpine A424 will make its debut in competition at the Qatar 1812 km, first round of the 2024 FIA WEC season. The Hypercar's development is almost complete and its crews fleshed-out. Now more than ever, Alpine is one to watch.
