Oliver Gavin (Corvette Racing) nominated for FIA Action of the Year award

The FIA, the governing body of motorsport, enlists fans to vote for their favourite track action of the year. Corvette Racing driver Oliver Gavin has been nominated for his pass of the BMW M8 GTE at the last 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Fans are urged to choose the best track action in each FIA discipline for the annual award. Oliver Gavin is among the nominees for skilfully squeezing the #64 Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C7.R past the #82 Team MTEK BMW M8 GTE at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. The action is testament to the grittiness of the LMGTE Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and throughout the FIA World Endurance Championship.

However, Gavin’s prowess wasn’t enough to give his team a class win in its 20th anniversary year. The #64 Corvette C7.R retired from the race after six hours, when Marcel Fässler went off in the Porsche Curves as he attempted to get past the #88 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR. The #63 sister car fell foul of the same sector. Jan Magnussen’s spin off broke the suspension but the car finished the race in 28th place and 9th in class.
