Pharrell Williams to start Le Mans Classic

Pharrell Williams, the American singer-songwriter and record producer whose many hits include worldwide smash “Happy”, will start the 8th Le Mans Classic on Saturday 9 July (16:00 local time).

It is a well-known fact that Pharrell Williams has a passion for beautiful motor vehicles with a special preference for supercars. The artist is also an avid motorsports enthusiast. Fans will remember he attended the 2015 Monaco Formula One Grand Prix, after concluding a deal with Lotus to have his name and that of his “i am OTHER” record label emblazoned on the two single-seaters.

On Saturday, the international star, a friend of French businessman Richard Mille, founder of the Swiss watch brand of the same name and main sponsor of Le Mans Classic, will learn all about the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans at the 8th Le Mans Classic. This internationally renowned vintage car racing event will welcome 550 machines from the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, from 1923 to 1993, to the very circuit where the famous marathon endurance race is held every June. Two years ago, the 7th edition attracted over over 110,000 spectators who enjoyed the vintage atmosphere of the Village, the wide variety of entertainment and the marque clubs’ displays of cars that will feature more than 8,500 vehicles this weekend.

Williams will brandish the French flag at 16:00 to unleash the vintage machines and their drivers on their quest to conquer the 13.627-km circuit with its turns and corners whose names are as famous as those of battlefields. An opportunity for Williams, a dedicated follower of art, design and fashion, to discover a passion for antique cars perhaps?
