The 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans for Spirit Of Race (LMGTE Am)

43 teams (fielding 61 cars) competed in the 87th 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Super Finale of the FIA WEC 2018-19 World Endurance Championship. There were winners, of course, but also mechanical glitches, track incidents and early retirements. Joy for some, disappointment for others... Here’s a summary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Spirit Of Race team, which ran in the LMGTE Am class.

Team: Spirit Of Race

Class: LMGTE Am

Car: Ferrari 488 GTE

Drivers:

  • Thomas Flohr (3rd participation)
  • Francesco Castellacci (4th participation)
  • Giancarlo Fisichella (10th participation)

This year, the Swiss team took its third start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The #54 Ferrari 488 GTE #54 qualified in 52nd place with a time of 3:52.826 clocked by Giancarlo Fisichella during the second session. In the race, two spin-outs for Thomas Flohr and a gravel trap detour for Francesco Castellacci slowed the car's progress. Nonetheless, the car crossed the finish line in 43rd place overall and 11th in the LMGTE Am class. For its first FIA WEC season, Spirit Of Race finished fourth in the FIA Endurance GTE Am Teams Trophy.
