What do former driver Mark Webber, Patrick Dempsey, Michael Fassbender and CJ Wilson have in common? Passion for motorsport. Fassbender and Wilson aspire to follow in the footsteps of Dempsey, who made the second step of the 24 Hours of Le Mans podium in 2015 with a team that bears his own name. Dempsey-Proton Racing continues to play a leading role in the LMGTE Am class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC), although the former Grey’s Anatomy star no longer dons the racesuit.
Wilson has also set up his own team – CJ Wilson Racing. The outfit competed in this year’s 12 Hours of Sebring and 6 Hours of Watkins Glen with an Acura, but the former Major League Baseball pitcher did not drive in the race. Fassbender, meanwhile, attended the 86th 24 Hours of Le Mans in June (see Michael Fassbender can now cross the 24 Hours of Le Mans off his bucket list!) and was treated to a lap of the legendary circuit in a prototype driven by four-time Le Mans winner Yannick Dalmas. It was now his turn in Spain! The Porsche 919 Hybrid that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times began its tribute tour in Spa with a lap record set by Neel Jani. There will undoubtedly be more surprises in store…
