Alex Quinn to be a Team Peugeot TotalEnergies factory driver next season

Alex Quinn crowns an excellent season in LMP2 and several months’ contribution to the Peugeot 9X8 campaign with the news of his next step.

Quinn (26) joined Team Peugeot TotalEnergies as development driver for the outfit’s FIA WEC campaign and is ready for a new challenge. Engaged for the forthcoming seasons, he will be taking the wheel of the evolved version of the Peugeot 9X8 he helped develop, with the 95th 24 Hours of Le Mans (9–13 June 2027) the highlight of the championship calendar.

From LMP2 to the Peugeot 9X8

Alex Quinn is the sort of driver who progresses steadily. A multiple-titled karting champion, he made his mark in single-seater racing as Rookie of the Year in both the British F4 Championship and the Formula Renault Cup. Then came the switch. In 2024, he turned to endurance racing, contesting both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and European Le Mans Series (ELMS), finishing the latter second in the LMP2 class.

He competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time that year, and took a solid sixth in class. The 24 Hours of Le Mans changes a driver. You learn to deal with pressure and twists of fate, test your teamwork and build your stamina. Quinn continued building his reputation.

In 2025, his excellent results attracted the attention of Team Peugeot TotalEnergies. Having earned the opportunity to take part in the FIA WEC Rookie Test at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain, he drove the Peugeot 9X8 for the first time. The test was conclusive and he joined Peugeot’s programme as Test and Development driver for 2026.

A year with the team proved decisive. His role at the wheel and his excellent feedback was much appreciated, earning him a full-time seat. An endurance race car is never developed by one person alone. Mile after mile, the development team of engineers, mechanics and drivers shape the car of the future. Quinn has learned to speak the language of the 9X8 and is seizing the opportunity to demonstrate his new skills.

A dream come true

The promotion is the culmination of a successful season. Early in the year, Quinn won the LMP2 class at Daytona 24 Hours. A few months later, he won the LMP2 Pro/Am class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Then, following a spectacular IMSA Sportscar Championship, he claimed the LMP2 title at Petit Le Mans in the last lap.

That was enough to convince Team Peugeot TotalEnergies. Team Principal Emmanuel Esnault: ‘We are delighted to promote Alex from a role of test and development driver to a full-time race driver role in 2027. Alex has demonstrated great abilities at the wheel of the car when testing with us and sporting achievements in LMP2 again this season. His pedigree is quite impressive as a Le Mans Winner in LMP2 Pro-Am, a Rolex Daytona LMP2 Winner, and an IMSA and ELMS race winner. This is the 2nd time that at Peugeot, we are promoting a young talent coming from the LMP2 landscape into a race driver role in LMH, and we are looking forward to racing with him next year at the wheel of the evolved PEUGEOT 9X8.’

Alex Quinn: ‘Becoming an official driver for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies in the FIA World Endurance Championship is a dream come true. It has been fantastic working with the team throughout this year, both at the factory and during testing programmes. Stepping up to a full-time race seat is something I am incredibly excited about and something I feel ready for after my recent successes in other championships. Most importantly, I am extremely grateful to everyone at Team Peugeot TotalEnergies for this opportunity, and I hope this is the beginning of an exciting journey together.’

In 2027, Quinn steps out of the shadows and into the limelight. He is about to take on a major role. When the curtain rises at Le Mans next year, he will step out on an already familiar stage. This time round, he’ll be in a Hypercar, his sights set on an outright win.
