When the #62 Ferrari ran dry on the last lap of the last race of the ALMS season, Ferrari were robbed of the manufacturers' title for the want of a pint of fuel. The Corvette of Emmanuel Collard, Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen passed the striken car and won Petit Le Mans 2010. A compensation perhaps for Doug Fehan and his team who experienced a difficult season while getting used to the GT2. Like the missed opportunity of the 12 Hours of Sebring. It seemed that the ZR1 was to dogged by problems all season, until the last lap of the last race !

In that infamous last lap, Gianmaria Bruni and Jaime Melo dropped to third place, but it was possibly at Lime Rock where the tide really turned. There was contact between a Corvette and the Risi F430 that spun the Ferrari into the tyre wall on lap 22, forcing them to retire. A zero-points finish is disaster in a category where each point is so hard fought.

Jorg Bergmeister and Patrick Long did not complete a single race outside the top 5, and won the drivers' title. This incredible consistency enabled Flying Lizard Motorsports to fight for the title until the final round, despite the fact that they only have one car against a set of two car teams; Rahal Letterman (BMW) , Risi Competizione (Ferrari) and Corvette Racing. To back-up the Lizards was the other Porsche factory prepared 'Team Falken Tire', but they were never able to do better than fifth place.

BMW Rahal Letterman Racing has won only one of nine rounds, but still netted team and constructors' titles. A success in spite of appearances, since Tommy Milner and Bill Auberlen collected six podiums. However, the privilege of the win went to Dirk Müller and Joey Hand at Road America. BMW must now show what they are capable in Europe, particularly at Le Mans where results were not up to those collected in the USA.

For its part, Ford GT prepared by the Doran has not delivered the promise glimpsed in 2009 when they took the GT pole position at the Petit Le Mans. For their first season, the Jaguar XKR improved race after race but without ever worrying the leaders. Finally, the Panoz Abruzzi was expected at Petit Le Mans, but will now make its debut at Sebring in March 2011.
