Asian Le Mans Series - New pole position for Thomas Laurent (ORECA)

The qualifying session for the 6 Hours of Buriram in Thailand, third round of the 2017/2018 Asian Le Mans Series season, is now a done deal. Thomas Laurent, a member of the Jackie Chan DC Racing x Jota Sport team, proved fastest and will start from pole position tomorrow at noon local time (5:00 a.m. in the U.K.).

Only nine thousandths of a second separated the first two cars by the end of the 15-minute qualifying session for the LMP2s and LMP3s. The fastest time was clocked by Thomas Laurent at the wheel of the #8 ORECA 05-Nissan fielded by Jackie Chan DC Racing x Jota Sport. The young French driver, who has now clinched his second pole position in three races, preceded Pipo Derani with the BBT team's #37 Ligier JS P2-Nissan. Jackie Chan DC Racing x Jota Sport's second car, the #7 driven by Jazeman Jaafar, joined the party at the end of the session, finishing third at 0.107s.

In LMP3, Josh Burdon - at the wheel of KCMG Motorsport's #18 Ligier JS P3 - was fastest in the GT and GT Cup qualifying. Trailing him was a young Gabriel Aubry with Jackie Chan DC Racing x Jota Sport's #6 Ligier JS P3. Though the French driver will be debuting in his first Endurance race, this will not be his first outing at the wheel of a prototype. He participated in the Rookie Test for the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) at Bahrain with the Signatech Alpine Matmut team.

Ollie Millroy clocked the best time of the GTs with FIST Team AAI's #90 Ferrari 488 GT3. He qualified ahead of Audi Sport Customer Racing Asia by TSRT's #66 Audi R8 LMS by the smallest of margins: one thousandth of a second! FIST Team AAI's second car, the #91 BMW M6 GT3, secured the third fastest time. Finally, in GT Cup, the defending champion outfit, Team NZ, clocked the fastest lap with its #77 Porsche 997 GT3 driven by John Curran.
