On November 27, 1095, Pope Urban II instigated the first crusade from Clermont-Ferrand, France. On June 10, 1967, Patrick Depailler, Clermont-Ferrand native took the start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time.

Deased in 1980 at the Hockenheim circuit, Patrick Depailler participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans eight times between 1967 (photo: the #56 Alpine A210) and 1978, primarily with Alpine, but the 24 Hours did not smile upon the hang-gliding enthusiast: the only time he crossed the finish line, in 1971, he went unranked…
