On Tuesday afternoon, the 62 teams entered in the 92nd 24 Hours took part in the 3rd Pit Stop Challenge. The #51 Ferrari 499P mechanics won the contest!.
The goal is to go under 10 seconds, explained Maël and Raphaël, two wheel change attendants for the #94 Peugeot 9X8. Revenge was on the menu after the failure experienced in 2023 when their #93 counterparts won the contest in 10:067. Preparation took consistent training. We do about five per day. But for this we only have one try!
Due to a mix-up at the right rear, Akkodis ASP Team's #87 Lexus RC F quickly found itself out of the running in 13:27 as the top LMGT3 places were decided in less than 11 seconds. The mechanics for Vista AF Corse's #55 Ferrari 296 LMGT3 completely missed the mark due to a stubborn nut at the left front.
The Hypercar victory was decided in less than 10 seconds as predicted by the Peugeot mechanics. The #7 and #8 Toyotas quickly proved the ones to beat in 09:80 and 09:83, respectively. However, the #51 Ferrari snatched the win in the end with a spectacular time of 09:68. The Italian marque succeeds Toyota and Peugeot as Pit Stop Challenge champions at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
