24 Hours of Le Mans - Stéphane Sarrazin joins SMP Racing

Stéphane Sarrazin is to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship Super Season 2018/2019. However, this season will be different: after six years with Toyota Gazoo Racing, the Frenchman will be joining SMP Racing’s LMP1 outfit.

Stéphane Sarrazin has driven 37 races for Toyota Gazoo Racing since 2012. He can boast 16 Le Mans 24 Hours with top-notch manufacturers Aston Martin, Peugeot and then Toyota, finishing in 2007, 2009, 2013 and 2016. He has never won the race but with the Peugeot 908 HDI Fap, he claimed three consecutive pole positions (2007-9). His experience is sure to prove valuable to his new team.

He will be taking the wheel of the BR1-AER developed by Dallara for ART Grand Prix. Russian team SMP Racing won LMGTE Am at the 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours and Sarrazin’s new teammates include Vitaly Petrov who has 57 Formula One races to his name, and Mikhail Aleshin (Formula Renault 3.5 champion in 2010 and four IndyCar Series). Two other Russian drivers, Egor Orudzhev and Matevos Isaakyan, winners of the last ELMS 4 Hours of Paul Ricard, are working on the development of the car. The BR1 was tested at Motorland in Spain a few days ago.

Toyota Gazoo Racing tweeted a thank you to Stéphane Sarrazin for his 6-year stint with the team.
