And the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans makes three for Porsche (video)!

This past Sunday, Porsche pulled off a hat trick at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, after Audi accomplished the same feat from 2012 to 2014, and so the German manufacturer will retain its title.

This past weekend at Le Mans, Porsche thought all was lost when the #1 919 Hybrid, at the time driven by André Lotterer, stopped on the edge of the track shortly after noon, unable to return to pit lane. This in addition to the #2 919 Hybrid experiencing a loss of traction on the front axle which required it to remain in its garage for more than an hour during the first half of the race.

But, Toyota's cars suffered two breakdowns and one accident, paving the way for the Japanese marque's rival. As a "small" LMP2 prototype was leading the race, the Porsche driver line-up of Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber rose from the ashes and went on to cross the finish line in first place, to its unmitigated surprise...and immeasurable joy.
