Asian LMS - The season kicks off this weekend in Zhuhai

There will be 29 cars on the starting grid at the 4 Hours of Zhuhai, opening round of the 2016/2017 Asian Le Mans Series season, this Sunday.

The grid will be made up of four LM P2s, including the one entered by DC Racing, LM P3 champion last year, competing with two cars this year. The Oreca 03R will be entrusted to Ho-Pin Tung, who also competes in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the Baxi DC Racing Alpine team's Alpine; Gustavo Menezes, an Alpine regular in the same championship and winner in the LM P2 class at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans; and Thomas Laurent, absent this weekend due to the Carrera Cup France, and recent rookie of the year in the European Le Mans Series. In LM P3, co-owner/driver David Cheng will share the wheel of the Ligier JS P3 with James Winslow, like last year, and Jun Jin "Kevin" Pu, winner in the ELMS this year.

In addition to DC Racing, the class will include nine other prototypes from three different marques: Ligier, Ginetta and ADESS, whereas the GT class may be comprised of as many as 15 competitors representing seven constructors: AMG, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren. However, an accident during a free practice session will most likely lead to the withdrawal of the #66 Audi R8 LMS.

After the 15-minute qualifying sessions on Saturday, October 29th, the start of the race will be given on Sunday, October 30th at 1:00 p.m. (6:00 a.m. in the U.K.).
