Eduardo Freitas and Rui Marques in Portimão for F1 and ELMS races

FIA Race Directors Eduardo Freitas and Rui Marques will be on the job this weekend at the Portimão circuit for the Portuguese F1 Grand Prix ahead of the final race of the 2020 European Le Mans Series season.

One week before the last race on the 2020 European Le Mans Series calendar, the 4 Hours of Portimão, the F1 Grand Prix will be held at the same circuit. Temporarily joining the Race Direction team are two local veterans of endurance racing: Eduardo Freitas and Rui Marques, FIA Race Directors for the World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The two colleagues will also reign over 36-car grid at the the 4 Hours of Portimão on 1 November.

Did you know?

Freitas chooses to serve as a track marshal as often as possible (such as his 2018 post at Mulsanne for the last edition of the Le Mans Classic). In fact, prior to becoming an FIA Race Director, the Portgueuse native started out as a track marshal, rising through the ranks little by little. He even met his wife at a circuit as she also serves as a marshal and they are both enjoying watching their two daughters follow the same path. So, for certain races in Portugal, you may catch the entire Freitas family at the edge of the track!
