MissionH24 shows the way forward at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual

It’s race day! The 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual is taking place this weekend, when the 88th 24 Hours of Le Mans was scheduled before it was postponed to 19–20 September. Preceding the field of esports champions and racing drivers is the LMPH2G, the hydrogen-electric racing car developed by H24Racing for the MissionH24 project initiated by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and GreenGT.

The project goal – a hydrogen class at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans – has attracted several high-profile partners, namely Total, Michelin, Symbio and now Austrian water treatment specialist BWT, whose colours form the virtual car’s livery this weekend. GreenGT and H24Racing test driver Olivier Lombard is sharing the wheel with simracing specialist Aurélien Mallet. As leading car and safety car, the LMPH2G led the 50-strong field around the course for the formation lap and is intervening to slow the pace during the race when necessary.

All eyes were on the state-of-the-art hydrogen-electric prototype as three-time Le Mans winner Allan McNish steered her around the 13 kilometres of the iconic circuit during the starting ceremony of the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A few days ago, ACO president Pierre Fillon took the wheel of the LMPH2G for real at the Lurcy Lévis test track and then on the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans. Pierre Fillon was able to judge the car’s progress for himself and took the opportunity to underline his commitment to the project he heads with GreenGT president Christophe Ricard, using racing to pioneer zero-emission mobility.

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, a fervent believer in hydrogen’s contribution to the future of motorsports, said, “the MissionH24 car is a superb project and the car is very promising for today’s crucial energy transition”.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans and endurance racing as a whole have always inspired progress in the automotive industry. Through its presence on track and screen, the LMPH2G is gradually introducing the world to its ground-breaking technology and will soon be leading the field towards zero-emission motoring.
