On October 27, 1904, the mayor of New York opened the first subway line in the city, preceded only by Boston's in 1897. June 21-22, 1958, the NART (North American Racing Team) team, registered in New York, participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the very first time.

Founded in 1958 by Luigi Chinetti, three-time winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1932, 1934 and 1949 and Ferrari importer in the United States, NART and the three Ferraris entered, including the #18 250, were forced to retire at their first appearance. But the American outfit eventually had its moment of glory on June 20, 1965 when Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt crossed the finish line the winners with their Ferrari 250 LM.
