The 24 Hours of Le Mans at the Geneva International Motor Show

Many cars that have participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, recently or otherwise, or that will be at the start of the 85th edition this coming June, are being exhibited at the Geneva International Motor Show opening its doors to the public this morning after days reserved to the media.

If there is a must-see booth for endurance racing and 24 Hours fans, it's Ford's with no less than three cars previous winners at Le Mans! The oldest is the iconic #2 Ford GT40 that in 1966 gave Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon the first of four consecutive Ford victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The most recent, the #68 Ford GT, won with Joey Hand, Dirk Müller and Sébastien Bourdais at the wheel in the LM GTE Pro class last year, 50 years to the day after its famous predecessor.

Lastly, between the two is a car that was not manufacturered by Ford, but still powered by the American marque: the Mirage GR8-Ford winner at Le Mans in 1975 with Jacky Ickx (clinching the second of his six wins at the 24 Hours), and Derek Bell, though more than three years older was at the time on his first of five victories at Le Mans.

Unlike Ford, Toyota is still chasing victory despite its 13 participations. The Japanese manufacturer was never as close to reaching the top step on the podium as it was last year: there was only one tiny lap missing for the Toyota TS050 HYBRID on display in Geneva to cross the finish line the winner, but a sudden and complete loss of power decided otherwise. The disappointment has compelled the Japanese to enter a third car in the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Aston Martin will enter three cars in June, but in two different classes. The #95 Vantage present in Switzerland allowed the British manufacturer to win the FIA Endurance LM GTE Pro Teams Trophy in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) last year, and the #13 Rebellion R-One on display did the same for Rebellion Racing among the private LM P1 teams. The latter is joined at the Geneva International Motor Show by the Oreca 07 sporting the #13 the Vaillante Rebellion team, back in the LM P2 class, will debut in 2017.
