WEC - 2017 6 Hours of Mexico program

Rain could very well throw a curveball in the proceedings at the 6 Hours of Mexico, the fifth round of the 2017 World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) season, set to take place this coming Sunday, September 3rd.

Early Wednesday evening, with air traffic thouroughly disrupted by heavy downpours at Mexico's international airport, planes flying some of the drivers destined for the race were rerouted to Cancun located more than 1,500 kilometers from the Mexican capital city.

Fortunately, the action on the track for the 6 Hours of Mexico will not kick off until this afternoon, which should allow the late arrivals to make it to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in time. Also unfortunately, weather forecasts offer no solace for the upcoming weekend with a considerable probability predicting rain even during the race itself.

The first 90-minute free practice session, the only one scheduled on Friday, will start at 5:15 p.m. local time after the mandatory driver and team manager briefing, with a second session planned at the circuit for 9:30 a.m. the next day, Saturday, September 2nd. The drivers will have a final 60-minute free practice at 1:45 p.m. before heading into qualifying.

The two drivers chosen by their team (in the FIA WEC to form the starting grid officials take the best time clocked of the two drivers and use the average) in the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am classes will begin qualifying at 5:50 p.m. followed by their counterparts in LMP1 and LMP2 at 6:20 p.m.

Afer a good night's sleep, the drivers will start their day on Sunday, September 3rd at 9:15 a.m. with a highly anticipated 30-minute autograph session, a second opportunity for spectators to interact with their idols after Saturday's foray into pit lane during the pitwalk from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Once the last selfies have been posted, competitors will begin final preparations for the six-hour race set to start at noon (6:00 p.m. in the U.K.). All times have been given as the local time, just add six hours for the time in the U.K.
