Injured during VTT training, Benoît Tréluyer had to leave his buddies Marcel Fässler and André Lotterer to compete as a duo at the 6 Hours of Nürburgring back in July. And since the three-time winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans has not yet fully recovered, he will also not participate in the 6 Hours of Mexico.
For the first time since his accident, Benoît Tréluyer - like Anthony Davidson hurt during a private testing session at Magny-Cours, for Toyota - got behind the wheel of the Audi R18 for the first free practice day at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. However, the French driver will not take the start of the race tomorrow, as confirmed by Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich: “In the race, Benoit needs to be absolutely fit. In agreement with our team physician, we have decided to give Ben more time to recover and to build up his fitness again in order to be one hundred percent fit for the 6-hour race in Austin in two weeks’ time."
Like in Germany, where they claimed a podium finish, Marcel Fässler and André Lotterer - with whom Tréluyer has won three times at Le Mans - will share the wheel of Audi Sport Team Joest's #7 R18 (fourth at this year's 24 Hours in June) at the 6 Hours of Mexico, the start of which will be given tomorrow, Saturday, September 3rd at 1:30 p.m. local time (7:30 p.m. in the U.K.).
