WEC - Rebellion Racing goes with Oreca for its return to LM P2 in 2017

Early October, the Rebellion Racing team announced it was leaving the LM P1 class to return to LM P2 without specifying with which constructor it would collaborate. It's now a done deal, the Swiss outfit has confirmed the continuation of its relationship with Oreca, and has ordered two Oreca 07s.

Rebellion Racing's choice is no surprise since the R-One entered in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), in which it has won three times between 2014 and 2016 the FIA Endurance Private LM P1 Teams Trophy, was developed with Oreca's help. The constructor based just outside the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet is among the four constructors commissioned by the ACO and the FIA to design LM P2 prototypes compliant with the new technical regulations in effect in 2017.

For two years, the Swiss outfit, a result of the association between Speedy Racing and Team Sebah, had already entered a Lola LM P2, the successor in the class from the 2009 24 Hours of Le Mans. After adopting the name of its main sponsor, Rebellion watches, in 2010, the team dedicated itself solely to the LM P1 class with Lolas, first powered by Judd, then by Toyota, before developing its own car, the R-One, in partnership with Oreca. These entries allowed it to finish in fourth place overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 2012 and 2014.

Rebellion Racing Team Principal Alexandre Pesci: "After our decision to quit the LM P1 privateer class after many years of success, we have carefully weighted all the available chassis options. Very soon it appeared that ORECA was the best choice for us to make, we are very happy with the Rebellion R-One they built for us and our working relationship was second to none, an ORECA chassis has won the LM P2 WEC class this year and I am confident that the new ORECA 07 will continue to dominate the LM P2 category in the near future."

The Swiss outfit will pursue its involvement in the WEC in 2017 and will compete in the 85th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, third round on the calendar.
