As many as four drivers took turns running laps at the wheel of the new GT: Martin Tomczyk (development driver), Nick Catsburg, Bruno Spengler (driver in DTM, the German touring car championship) and Philipp Eng who finished eighth in the LMGTE Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016 in the Dempsey-Proton Racing team's Porsche.
Time is of the essence for the BMW M8 set to take the start at its first race, the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, in January of 2018. It will replace the M6 currently entered by the RLL team. Though the MTEK team has been tapped to run the car in the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), the German manufacturer has yet to announce its plans for the American championship.
