WEC - World Champion LM GTE Drivers and Manufacturers title announced for 2017

The FIA World Motorsport Council has decided to change the FIA Endurance Cup for GT Drivers and Manufacturers to World GTE Champion beginning in 2017. In addition, the freeze on the LM P1 technical regulations until the end of 2019 and the 2017 World Endurance Championship (WEC) calendar have been confirmed.

President of the ACO, Pierre Fillon: "I would like to warmly thank Jean Todt, President of the FIA and Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones, President of the FIA Endurance Commission, for their total involvement in obtaining this title. I would like also to acknowledge the efforts made by the manufacturers and their sporting performances that fully justify this world title label.”

CEO of the FIA WEC, Gérard Neveu: "The announcement of this world title is excellent news for the WEC and rewards a grid of the highest quality. This decision should speed up the arrival of other manufacturers to this category.”
