1992 Le Mans winner Derek Warwick to be F1 driver representative in Bahrain

Like the World Endurance Championship (WEC) the Formula One championship takes in the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. At the Bahrain Grand Prix next weekend, Derek Warwick will be the driver representative on the stewards' panel, a responsibility he first undertook in 2014.

FIA president Jean Todt introduced the system in 2010 and since then, drivers have been represented on the stewards’ panel, to give their point of view on race incidents. Warwick is familiar with the role, having sat on the panel in Spa and in Austin, both WEC circuits.

The chairman of the British Racing Drivers’ Club who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1992 with Peugeot and has 146 Grand Prix races to his name is not the only former Le Mans winner to have become a race steward. Mr Le Mans, Tom Kristensen, and his former Audi teammates Allan McNish and Emanuele Pirro have also served as driver representatives, as has Jochen Mass, who won Le Mans in 1989.
