2015 Le Mans winner Hülkenberg pens new F1 deal

Nico H

So is this good news for fans of endurance, and particularly Le Mans? Not for those who were hoping to see him battle it out in the short term for the World Endurance Champion title. However it might be for those who would like to see him back at Le Mans as Vijay Mallya, Force India team owner, did allow Hülkenberg to compete in the 24 Hours this year and Porsche have made it clear that the German driver would be welcome to return to their third car in 2016.

Having tasted success in both disciplines, reviving the tradition of yesteryear’s drivers, Hülkenberg was asked the inevitable “Will you be back?” question at the post-race press conference. His response? A swift “I hope so!”.

Currently lying twelfth in the Formula One World Championship, more than 200 points behind leader Lewis Hamilton, Hülkenberg will now focus on helping Force India take fifth place in the Constructors’ championship – an achievement that would bring great joy to Mallya, who made the trip to Le Mans to cheer on his protégé.
