17/24 – 24 Hours of Le Mans at full speed!
The 24 Hours 2011 will go down in history as one of the first major endurance races of the early twenty-first century.
In addition to the tenth victory of Audi, the twentieth of Michelin, and only thirteen seconds separated the leadng two cars at the finish between the first two, some stunning figures were added to the legend of the 24 hours, until the birth of the Championship FIA World in 2012.
Andre Lotterer was on the attack, setting the fastest lap (3'25''289) on Sunday morning at the wheel of the Audi R18 # 2, the eventual winner lapped faster than the qualfying pole position time of his team-mate Benoit Treluyer (3 '25''799).
The big chase began on Sunday morning after a total of 4 hours and 53 minutes of yellow flags (especially following accidents of Audi Allan McNish and Mike Rockenfeller) did not prevent Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer winning the race at over 200 km/h average speed (201.27 accurately ) at the end of the Sunday morning battle in front of the Peugeot 908 of Bourdais / Lamy / Pagenaud.
World Championship for the future: the 24 Hours in 2011 also marked by the announcement of the creation in 2012 of the World Endurance Championship, organized by the Federation Internationale Automobile and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, for which the Le Mans 24 Hours 2012 will be the jewel in the crown.
