Nico Hülkenberg, the winner - Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber's teammate in the No. 19 Porsche 919 Hybrid, Nico Hülkenberg won at the 24 Hours at his first participation. An exploit that had people talking the following weekend when he returned to the Formula 1 paddock and rejoined the Force India team at the Grand Prix of Austria. It had been 24 years since an active F1 driver had won at Le Mans, since Johnny Herbert and Bertrand Gachot with Mazda in 1991. This year, Hulkenberg took full advantage of a convenient syncing of race schedules...but may be unable to defend his 24 Hours win in 2016 as the new Grand Prix of Europe at Bakou (Azerbaijan) is set for the weekend of Le Mans.
Timo Bernhard, the champion - For Timo Bernhard and his teammates Brendon Hartley and Mark Webber, the second place finish at the 2015 24 Hours was the beginning of a momentum that would carry the trio all the way to the World Endurance Drivers Champion title. Four consecutive victories followed (Nürburgring, Circuit of the Americas, Fuji and Shanghai) before the suspenseful final round at the 6 Hours of Bahrain. Already a winner at Le Mans in 2010 in an Audi and distance record-holder ever since (with Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller) in 5,405 km at an average of 225 km/h, Bernhard is surely now looking toward a new goal: to win his second victory at the 24 Hours at the wheel of a Porsche.
André Lotterer, the recordman - After a third win at Le Mans in 2014, Lotterer and his buddies Marcel Fässler and Benoît Tréluyer were once again the best Audi driver line-up at the 2015 24 Hours. In addition to claiming the third step on the podium, Lotterer set a new circuit lap record, at an average of 248 km/h (3:17:475). Will the 84th edition involve a new rendez-vous with destiny for the trio Fässler-Lotterer-Tréluyer, in the form of a fourth win, which would make them the winningest driver line-up in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans? The answer Sunday, June 19, 2016 at 3:00 p.m....
