24 Hours of Le Mans 2015 - Kevin Estre from GT to prototypes

After having debuted in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps as a factory Porsche LM GTE Pro driver, Kevin Estre will race in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans at the wheel of a Ligier JS P2 (LM P2 class).

At 26 years of age, the French driver is experiencing a nice intro to endurance. Along with German driver Sven Müller in one of the two factory Porsche 911 RSRs, at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps he reached the third step on the LM GTE Pro podium, despite a penalty early in the race. Kevin Estre also continues his preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, at which he will compete in LM P2 with OAK Racing at the wheel of a Ligier JS P2 shared with Laurens Vanthoor and Christopher Cumming.

Kevin Estre: "I molded my JS P2 seat on Friday, May 1st at eight in the morning at Spa-Francorchamps, where I will also do two days of testing on May 19th and 20th. I will unfortunately miss Test Day for the 24 Hours of Le Mans on May 31st because I have a race in the U.S. as an official McLaren driver. With the 911, traffic management at Spa-Francorchamps was actually quite similar to what I experience in the U.S. in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship, where I am used to looking in the rearview mirrors. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with the Ligier JS P2, one must overtake the GTs all while keeping an eye on the LM P1s in the mirrors. It will be different and a first for me. The difference between the LM P2 and LM P1 prototypes is somewhat minimal in the slow turns, a little more obvious in the fast turns and impressive in the straights. One must really check the mirrors while exiting the Tertre Rouge and chicanes. If in the future I am given a choice between racing as a Porsche factory driver in LM GTE Pro or with OAK Racing in LM P2, it will be difficult. In my opinion, just in terms of pure fun, the Ligier JS P2 would be it because it is a fantastic car. But it is also true that as a career choice, it would be hard. But for now, I'm not thinking about that and am focused on the 24 Hours of Le Mans first of all, like I did for the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps."
