Mathias Lauda and Bruno Senna have in common winning, two years apart, in their classes at the WEC 6 Hours of Silverstone in their very first endurance race. In 2013, the second won in LM GTE Pro. Two years later, the first achieved a similar performance at the same circuit in LM GTE Am and even repeated the feat on May 2nd at the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
At the wheel of an Aston Martin Vantage undefeated in LM GTE Am since the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans, Mathias Lauda is getting ready to take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, while Bruno Senna's three participations at Le Mans (one in an LM P1 Oreca in 2009, two with Aston Martin in LM GTE in 2013 and 2014) ended in as many retirements. But his Aston Martin started from pole position in his class in 2013, and his duel in the lead against Gianmaria Bruni's Ferrari on Sunday morning was one of the highlights of the 2014 24 Hours. Though Senna chose single-seaters by entering the FIA Formula E, Lauda, at 34 years old, chose endurance after having tackled several disciplines (DTM, GP2, FIA GT, A1 GP, Porsche Supercup). And he may very well get his prestigious name in the win record book at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as of his first participation...40 years after the first of three world titles was won by his legendary father Niki in Formula 1.
